Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
